81st Infantry, Fourth State Color. Composed of men from Philadelphia, Carbon, and Luzerne counties, the 81st was organized August-October 1861. The fourth state color was received just prior to muster out, which was on June 29, 1865. The first state color has disappeared. The second was noted as being badly torn and is possibly one of the flags marked "unknown." The third state color is in the Commonwealth's collecton after being carried from January 17, 1865 until muster out.
